When you head into one of our districts in the southeast region it won’t be long before you see an antique store or two. Lots of these shops are filled with businesses that not only sell antiques, but offer recycled, repurposed, restored and handcrafted goods also. Cute names like Exhibit A, Penny Lane, Obtanium, The Honey Hole and the Market Flea adorn these shops and there is a healthy cluster of them in Clovis, Portales, Roswell, Lovington, and Carlsbad.
Sometimes called junque-tiques, these great little shops are filled with entrepreneurs who are refinishing, repurposing and crafting to support their hobbies and families. These stores continue to pop up around the region and shops are seeing visitors from all over New Mexico and neighbors like Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado.
Our neighbors to the west lovingly call this area the “junkin’ trail.” And that is a compliment! Vintage suitcases, scales, and linens are tucked amidst hand crafted pottery, wreathes and art.
Unique fashions, jewelry and home goods.
The next time you wander through southeastern New Mexico. Slow down and watch for a Prairie Road Junqtique or Rosemerry Rabbit. You might find a treasure tucked away with your name on it!
