Constructed 1890

Located on a downhill slope between the Plaza and the Gallinas River, what is now Bridge Street was originally the National Road or the Santa Fe Trail before the railroad arrived. This area was where the original settlements gardens and acequia madre (mother ditch) were located. As the new City of East Las Vegas boomed eastward across the Gallinas River, Bridge Street grew rapidly during the 1880s and 1890s with every manner of business, including saloons, hardware stores, grocery stores, clothing stores and banks. Bridge Street preserves many fine Italianate buildings from this era and is recognized as one of the premier boomtown streets in New Mexico. Bridge Street was named a Great American Street by the American Planning Association in 2013.
