Deming Post Office

Southwest Region

Constructed 1937

Built at the bid cost of $62,400, the national register-listed Deming Post Office was constructed in 1937 by the New Deal programs and is a red brick, single-story building with limestone belt courses, lintels, sills and decorative panels. Kenneth Adams completed the mural "Mountains & Yuccas" in the post office in 1937. Yucca and other vegetation can be seen in the foreground while the landmark Cook's Peak dominates the background. The color palette used in this work comes from the soft greens, blues, violets and yellows found in the nearby landscape. -- Source "Public Art & Architecture in New Mexico 1933-1943: A Guide to the New Deal Legacy"
