Raton Post Office

Northeast Region

Joseph A. Fleck was commissioned to paint two murals in the Raton Post Office, "Butterfield Mail" and "Unloading Mail at Raton", the first depicting Taos Indians and Raton miners in 1849 reading mail delivered by a scout on a white horse. The other mural focuses on the local mail system during the 1930s.The murals were moved from the old post office to the new one when it was built. -- Source "Public Art and Architecture in New Mexico 1933-1943" by Kathryn A.
