Constructed 1921.
The Lyceum Theater opened in 1921 with 899 seats, built for E.F. Hardwick with stage capacity for vaudeville shows and movies. It was designed in the Mission Revival style by the Boller Brothers, a popular architectural firm specializing in movie theaters. The Lyceum showed its first talking picture in 1929, Chinatown Nights, starring Wallace Beery. A year before, John Phillip Sousa and his orchestra debuted the New Mexico March at the Lyceum. Other celebrities to appear at the theater included Tom Mix and Shirley Temple. The theater closed in 1974 and was acquired by the City of Clovis in 1982. The City has steadily enhanced the theater over the years with the goal of presenting multi-media performing arts to the community.
