Constructed 1927.

Historic Route 66 in Gallup is evident on the four-lane Historic Rt. 66 street and also on Coal Ave., one block south. The old highway split up into complementary one way routes from its origins. In few cities, can one experience as much of the original flavor of the Mother Road as in Gallup. Historic motels and hotels, famously the El Rancho, still operate. The Santa Fe train station has been rehabilitated into a multi-cultural center, and the El Morro Theater, built just one year after the national highway was built is still open. Indian trading posts and pawn shops offer the visitor an unforgettable shopping experience.
