“The well known Riverwalk Park Area (known locally as “The Big Ditch”) was done with New Deal funds following a severe flood. The main purpose for the project was flood protection. There are also WPA sidewalks in this area and water and sewer lines were put in throughout the city. On one building in the downtown area, there is a contemporary mural that has a sidewalk included in it with the highly visible ‘WPA’ stamp painted on it.” — Source: Public Art and Architecture in New Mexico 1933-1943
