Onate Theater building

Constructed 1932.

Built in 1932, the Oñate Theater is one of the oldest surviving movie theaters in New Mexico. Located in Belén, NM, this Art Deco building originally seated 600 patrons and served the community for decades as a beloved regional cinema.

In 1993, the venue was transformed into a popular restaurant, drawing visitors with its collection of classic movie memorabilia. In 2018, new ownership renovated the Oñate Theater, reimagining it as a community event space that honors its nearly century-old legacy.

Today, the Oñate Theater stands as both a piece of living history and an active gathering place in the heart of Belén, New Mexico.
