The Corrales Scenic Byway

Central Region

The Corrales Road (6.7 miles; N.M. 448) passes through an area north of Albuquerque that has been farmed for 1,300 years. Nestled along the Rio Grande, the Village of Corrales has a much different feel from its big city neighbor. The byway is a leisurely route through the bosque (riparian forest), fields of crops, vineyards, and livestock corrals that give the village its name.
A large nature preserve provides a habitat to many species of birds, and connects with the 16-mile long Paseo del Bosque Trail, recognized by Sunset Magazine as one of the best trails in the western U.S. Along with the cafes and shops of Corrales MainStreet, these amenities provide lots of opportunities to get out of the car and explore further.
